The entire fatigue life can be considered, with a degree of simplification, as the propagation of existing defects and micro-cracks. 3D printing technology has brought unprecedented shape freedom to components. In the field of metals, additive manufacturing technology stimulates the development of new materials with specially desired properties. The implementation of additively printed metal parts into the operation of structures and machines also brings new challenges in terms of their structural integrity under cyclic loading. The specific fatigue properties and fatigue crack initiation of these materials are due to factors such as internal defects, residual stresses, surface quality and the consequences of surface finishing, including the application of laser technologies, etc.
We look forward to an interesting mutual discussion on:
- specificities in the fatigue properties of additively manufactured metals
- specifics of fatigue crack initiation and propagation in additively manufactured metals
- specifics of the computational evaluation of the fatigue life of additively manufactured components
- possibilities of increasing the fatigue properties of additively manufactured metals by technology parameters and post-processing operations
